about

"We were bound to do a Motörhead cover eventually. Their music is such an important influence on the End of Hope sound. The hard part really was WHICH Motörhead song? People always cover "Ace of Spades." Or "Killed by Death." But Iron Fist, the album and the song, seems to get short shrift. Maybe because it was released after Ace of Spades. No matter how good the album was, it would always be considered less compared to that landmark. Lemmy said Ace of Spades was the height of their popularity and Iron Fist was the start of a rough patch for the band. Iron Fist also marks the splintering of the classic trio of Lemmy, Philthy, and Eddie. Supposedly the final straw was the disagreement over recording "Stand by Your Man" with Wendy O. Williams. Eddie didn't dig the idea and walked. Philthy and Lem soldiered on. Regardless, Iron Fist was their last hurrah together. And while the album is maybe not as stellar as Overkill or Bomber, it's got "Speedfreak" and "Go to Hell" and "America" and of course the goddamn title track. That burst of speed and aggression hooks you with the first power chords of the stop/start opening. It's an instant stone-cold Motörhead classic. Not a lot of bands have covered "Iron Fist." Usually it's metal bands that do. And they all strip the groove out of it, playing it more like a speed metal tune. Trying to outdo Lem and the boys with sheer velocity. So we wanted to put the groove back into it. That boogie that underpins most of Motörhead's songs (that many British bands from the 70s picked up from having to play endless gigs at pubs before they made it big). And we also wanted to make it our own. Give it more of a NYHC spin. We think we found the happy medium. Dig it." – Ken
